2 Under Par (At most courses - and in life)

Yes it is a cryptic title, but I'm sure you can figure it out.  I've had the most wonderful birthday celebration ever.  Carolyn and I went to the Fresh Fish Company for dinner on the 10th.  That was my actual birthday - the 10th.  But, Saturday turned out to be the very very special day.  The kids planned it all and had the house thoughtfully decorated.

The day started with a hike through Castlewood Canyon - accompanied by Wendfal.  It was a great 1 hour and 44 minute 5.7 mile hike.  The falls were beautiful -and it was the perfect time of day to do the hike.  I got home about 10:30 A.M. and we partied until about 5:30 P.M.  I knew the kids were planning something because they had asked me to keep the 11th of July open.  But this was special.  The guests came in several waves -- and there were lots of guests.  Each brought a bottle of wine, but more importantly they brought themselves and we were able to share the joy, the company, the happiness, the family, the friends, the kids, the grandkids, the food the drink and the laughter.

All our kids were here - Heather, Chad, Kindle and Jeremiah and their spouses - Eric, Wendfal, Drew, and Xavier - and their kids Autumn (Wolfgang had to work), Megan, Hailey, Trenton and Aubrey (Brooke is in Missouri establishing her Missouri residency), Bishop and Kairi, Oscar Henry Morell, Tyler -- Great friends Rosana and Sean all the way from Laramie (a big surprise), Eric and Erica, John and Eunice, Kevin and Sharon, Michelle and her friend Lauren and the biggest surprise of all Joe and Sherry (20 years since we've seen them in person - I cried), neighbors Vicki and Linda.  The Martinez side of our family - Rita, Gail, Kameko and Angel, Suzy, Mary Anne, Susan, Jerry and Esther, Marc and Julie, Jennifer - Lauren and Heather (Jeff sent his wishes), Rebecca, and most importantly my lovely lady Carolyn.... I see most of these folks every day and they've kept this secret for 5 or 6 weeks.  I was even surprised and Fitz golf course on league Wednesday with best wishes from the Tin Cup II crew and the members of our league.  (Oh and there was the little dog Harvey!) There were also the many Facebook birthday wishes  - from class of '63 classmates and a few of my very special friends from my days at Lockheed Martin... especially my "blue bottle" pal Sherri!  I got calls or cards from my brother (better catch that refrigerator), and sisters...  thank you all!  (If I've omitted any names, well, I've got an excuse - three Bloody Mary's and well, you know!)  And for those of you who couldn't make it - I missed you and let it be known you missed an awesome party!

We had a great time and it is a birthday I will always remember with great joy and happiness in my heart.  Thank you all so very much for being a part of my life --  believe me I've enjoyed "each and every moment".  I love you all!

And if you haven't figured out the title yet - well, give it time you will - hint, I love to play golf!

Naturally Speaking

Here goes nothing! Purchased Dragon NaturallySpeaking.  I have tried in the past but found it in a very slow! However this new package works really really good. I might walk more often because you do the typing typing for me! I do have to learn to use the package a little bit better as I see the double word for typing their.

We had a lot of rain here in Colorado. Almost 26 inches the last 30 days I think that's what we had in the last two years put together! The law is looking really good obviously. Not really sure that the punctuation once and you're not.

Were having a tree service over to check all the trees in the backyard and the front yard. Some of these trees were damaged by the storm so just need to prune. Hope to get that estimate next few days!

Press Lake Camp.... May 24 - Sunday - 2015

Our first full fishing day in camp.  We had Walleye last night and are having it again tonight.  Delicious.  Today I caught a 22.25" walleye and returned it to the water.  Tanner caught a 21.5" walleye and returned it - he is only 9 and 1/2 years old.  Totally on his own!!!!!

I also caught a very nice 19" smallmouth bass... catch and release - this time of year the only ones you can keep are under 13" - it is spawning season.

The fishing has been great and the weather fantastic - though a little warm.

I learned to play a new Dominoes game - Chicken Foot.  It really is a lot of fun.!

I wish I had some photos, but I didn't bring the camera.  I guess I should at last take my phone so I can capture any great moments - like Tanner's big catch.

I do have some photos of Kakabecka Falls -- we stopped there on the way to Press Lake.  It was a more impressive water falls than I expected!

Awesome eh?!  Enjoy your moments.  Live, Laugh, Love, Be happy and have "an open heart"!!!!

Canada 2015

It is a new day...  New days are good.  I'm in Iowa getting ready for the annual trek to Canada for some Walleye fishing.  I love catching those nice smallmouth bass too.  The occasional very nice northern isn't bad either.

This year going up with Lana and Jack, Glen and Tanner.  It should be loads of fun.

Yah know, I don't write much of late.  I"m not sure why that is.

Centennial - has had 14 straight days with rain, already over 14" this year.  In Iowa - they've had a lot of rain too.  The lakes, rivers, and ponds are all full up.  The farmer's fields look great.  The rain's have been the non-flooding kind.  Slow enough that the ground can soak it up before a new rain comes.  It has been the same in Colorado. (note to self:  I'm hungry!)

I think I'll go practice my casting flips.  On to bowling - Carolyn and I are joining a "senior" couples league in the fall.  We picked out our new equipment - balls, bags, shoes and such and are looking forward to some practice lines during the summer.  It would be nice to get or averages over 100.  It has been some 30 years since we've done any "regular" bowling.  We practiced three lines the other day and really enjoyed it.

Well, enough -- enjoy your moments, each and every one of them!  That's what life is all about!

Be Happy

I know that to say "be happy" can seem like a very trite phrase.  What does it really mean?  Was it Bobby McFerrin's version (Bobby McFerrin - Don't Worry Be Happy youtube.com
) .  Or is it as stated in "The Untethered Soul" by Michael A. Singer.  I think Bobby hit the nail on the head when he wrote that very happy song.  I also think the Michael Singer has a lot to tell us in his book - Chapter 15 really brings home the value of happiness and the gripping realities of being committed to the decision - and, it really is just that, a simple decision.  But beware, it is not a decision to take lightly because it is a decision to be happy, no matter what!

We are bombarded daily with literally hundreds of things that can ding and bang away at that shield of happiness - it is the way we handle those bombardments that can truly lead to joy and full-time happiness.  I really thank Wendfal and Carolyn for sharing the book with me.  I strongly recommend you read or listen to it.  It is available on "Audible" which is an Amazon product.  (I seem to be an Amazon addict.)

I finally got to play a round of golf yesterday.  It was the first time this year!  Played well too.  What a beautiful day and so very nice to get out and about.

"Its a Wonderful Life" - live it in happiness!  Each and every moment of it!

Consistency

Well, I can only say one thing for sure - "I'm consistently inconsistent!"  I guess this is a case where consistency isn't necessarily a good thing. Of course I'm referring to the frequency of posting new blogs.  There was I time when I said I would do it every day - we all know that hasn't happened and isn't likely to happen in the future.  But, that isn't all bad because if I tried to write something every day, it would probably be a bunch of drivel.  Some of it still is drivel - but every once in awhile I do make a good point or two. I figure that is enough on the subject, on to other matters that matter.

Like a letter we got from a friend in Germany!  Barbara, thanks for writing.  If you do happen to read this your response will be on the way soon (meaning in the next day or two).  That is another thing I'm "inconsistent" about - getting back to folks - but, it will happen.  We really enjoyed your letter.

We started our "spring cleaning" today.  Yah, I know it isn't spring but we do have a lot of cleaning and consolidating to do.  It seems no matter how much stuff we give to Goodwill or ARC or LUPUS or whatever charity, there is always more stuff to give the next time!  We already have one box ready for their next call!

Speaking of spring - I really need to get out on the golf course - here's hoping we get some snow melt - well, more snow melt in the next few days.  I really do need to get outside!

So, have a great day - yesterday is gone, tomorrow isn't here yet - all you really have is right now - so, be in the now!  It really is the only time that counts!

Other Matters

Here we are on the 7th day of 2015.  Other matters are already coming up.  For me, other matters are things like family difficulties, friendship difficulties, poor weather - can't play golf, getting the snow blower started - thanks to a clue from my neighbor I finally did- but now there is no snow!  Since some of these are very private I won't share, but leave it at we are off to a roaring start for 2015.  So, why do I choose today to write about this.

Well, a sister called, a son helped and now I have questions, but they are not urgent or significant enough to worry about. So, I'll probably talk about a few other things - like procrastination.  Why is it that there are some things that I procrastinate about and other things I do right away.  I've pondered this and determined it has nothing to do with the ease of the task or the discomfort of doing the task.  It seems to be deeper and on a more "personal" level.  Like I need to talk to my sons about a couple of things ..  but I don't want to hurt them by telling them! So, what do I do - my gut says I need to say something - I need to follow my gut.

Damn, I so want to play some golf - I wonder If I will be asked back to Myrtle Beach - I wonder if I will go if I am asked????  Wow, there is something to ponder!

Got a trip coming up I haven't cancelled.  Got something to talk to Carolyn about. Oh, so much on my mind.  Hey I figured out how to wire some candles that were battery operated and made them hard wired.  We went through way too many batteries.  I've been trying to post a picture to Facebook, couldn't do it for some stupid reason, so posting it here:  Thank you Morell's!

The set up for the timer!

The Picture - thanks for the Vegan Healthy Snacks DKO!

Accumulation

Ever notice how certain areas of the house just seem to accumulate stuff.  It can be a closet, a room, a desk drawer, a cupboard, a corner of a room, the garage, under the porch in the boat in the winter... so many places sooooo much stuff!

It doesn't seem to make any difference how much "stuff" you give to Goodwill, ARC, LUPUS charities - whatever - there's still stuff put in all those different places.  We put away the indoor Christmas "stuff" today.  I swear it takes up twice as much shelf space as it did last year!

What brought this blog subject up?  Well, I went to the kitchen desk to find a special sticker for our calendar - I just put the stickers away earlier today -- I had to empty the whole darned drawer to find the stickers I just put away this morning.  What is with that?  The picture to the left has all the contents of the sticker drawer.  There's a lot more than stickers and looking at this stack I don't see the stickers I want.  I got the drawer fully emptied and finally - there they were, stuck way in the back about to fall over the back into the drawer below.  I did end up taking almost everything out of the drawer.  I just left the one thing you see below.  You never now when you'll need the floor outlet cover plug again and what better place to stick it than in the sticker drawer!  Oops I see I left a tube of useless glue in the back of the shelf.

I'm convinced that there's a reason we do this, but I sure as heck can't figure it out.  It will probably take us a couple of hours to go through all the stuff I took out of the drawer and decide just what should be put back in the drawer.  The project should make for some very interesting conversation.

The next picture is one of the center drawer - really a rather useless drawer because it is only about one and one-half inches deep.  When you shut the drawer, everything tends to drift toward the back leaving empty space up front for more stuff..  Yet another interesting project.  Hey there's my 12' foot tape!  I wondered where that darned thing went to.  And is that a razor blade.  I was looking for one of those the other day!  And this is just two freakin' drawers in the kitchen desk - just imagine the other 3990 square feet of the house and its contents!

Have a great day.  Do you know where all your "stuff" is?

Plastic Forks and Other Misdeameanors

To write about it or not write about it!  I know Shakespeare said it first - but I use a similar phrase many times in a year.  Only the second day of the year and I've added an item to the don't list - it is a list I keep on the side of my refrigerator near my Keurig.   More later - I promise (unless I forget).

Had the drive and walks shoveled by 6:45AM.  We had 6 to 8" of the very soft white stuff last night.  Made the trees look extra beautiful this morning.  The drive to personal training was fantastical and wonderful. After personal training we want shopping at Costco.

First staples of the year!  We purchased mostly fruit and veggies.  We are watching the movie Charade  I'm not sure why I mention this.  It is just that I forgot why I even started writing this brief monologue. Oh, yah, plastic forks - well I was silently informed this morning that certain parties do not appreciate a plastic fork for breakfast.  Oops.  I do think I understand though - it really isn't easy to cut a piece of bacon with a plastic fork.  So there it is, the faux pas had to go on the don't do it again list.

We did get about 75% done with putting away the indoor Christmas decorations.  Nice way to end the week - time for a Malbec or a scotch - hmmmmmmmmmm!

Happy New Year - 2015

We went to bed early last night - December 31st. It as been a wonderful day to day - starting with sleeping in this morning.

We started taking down Christmas decorations earlier today.  That is a two or three day project.  Carolyn went to the Rec Center this morning after breakfast.

I'm not making any New Year's resolutions.  Haven't done so for many years.  I'm not sure exactly why - just doesn't seem they are needed.  We had a wonderful 2014 - without any resolutions-there were also a few losses:

Yah, It has been awhile!

I think my mom (like's to be called Mum - God only knows why), once told me that "unless you have something important to say, keep your mouth shut."  That along with "if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all!"  Well, I just haven't had anything to say be it nice, important, or whatever.

For some reason I fell the need to write and I do have the right to write it if I so choose.

View Coming Down from Top of Hunter's Trail
Fall is in the air.  Carolyn and I took a couple of trips to Aspen.  We stay at a great place.  I hate to name the place because it may get so popular we won't be able to book it anymore - or am I just dreaming. When we wer last there the Aspen were just starting to change.  We had a beautiful hike up (and down) Hunter's Trail.  I should have worn better shoes.  On the way back we stopped at a bridge over looking th roaring fork.  I wish I had my fishing pole.  There, just below me in a quite pool was a beautiful trout.  It would have been fun to catch and release.

I think I'm going to sell my pickup.  Carolyn and I are thinking of downsizing to one vehicle.  It will likely be an SUV that we can still use to tow the boat and still be very comfortable on long hauls.  We still drive to Canada, Iowa, and Missouri from time to time.  Brooke is a Mizzou Tiger now - so I imagine we'll drop by and see her when we had for Big Cedar.

We sat for Kindle an Drew the other night.  That baby Oscar has a healthy set of lungs - but, when he's mellow he is a "very mellow fellow".  He takes after his dad that way. I got to figure out how to get all my photos in OneDrive One Cloud or something.  I've got a couple in my phone Gallery that I would like to share in this post.  I'll figure that out sometime today - really! (Hey, I figured it out!)

Carolyn and I have embarked on yet another adventure.  We are eating Paleo and loving cooking the new and varied recipies together.  This morning we had braised greens, cinamon broiled grapefruit, and English Bangers.  The grapefruit was awesome.  I learned a lesson on braising greens.  Things like Kale need to be started ahead of things like spinach.  We could also add more seasoning than we do.  But it is som much fun cooking with Carolyn.  Need I say more.  I don't think so!

Soon to be Another Much More Talented Blogger Than I!

Mike and Vicki are visiting!  I would say "about time" but that wouldn't be nice! We are so glad they have been able to spend this time with us.

Michael is a very observant guy.  He looked out our back window and saw a nesting dove.  I wondered why (we walked by the nest 100 times) we never noticed her or her eggs before.  Of course Vicky already knew that doves nest in the lowest branches of trees.  So, there you go.

We visited much of the family this week - celebrated births, weddings, and family.  Life is good!

We also downed a few bottles of wine - a couple from a winery in Rapid City - Firehouse.  It was very, very good. And, probably, another bottle or two this evening.

I really don't have anything intelligent to say this evening - well I rarely do say anything intelligent, but I say it anyway.

Oscar and Bishop - welcome to our world.  Xavier, welcome to the family.  Michael and Vicky we are so very glad you came!  Love to all!

The Personal Challenge

From time to time I lose track of what I want out of life - my goals, my values-even my principles.  I think it is time to re-evaluate and gone on with quality and stop making excuses.  I'm about 18 lbs over weight, some would say 28lbs.  My golf game has gone south - I mean way south.

Today at personal training I was reminded of these things.  How can WTF help me if I don't even know for sure what it is that I want.  so I need to do things that help me focus better on what it is I want.  (I know I waste a lot of time playing games - but, I do enjoy it - and, what is wrong with enjoying.)  The other day Carolyn challenged me to go fishing more often - there's no reason why I shouldn't!  I'm too lazy sometimes.

So the "Personal Challenge" is to follow up on some of the suggestions that were made to me today by Wendfal.  Writing those things down adds significance - so, I will write them down.

  • Work with Carolyn and coordinate a meal plan for the next 4 days.  Send the plan to Wendfal.
  • Set up my Total Gym as soon as we have the exercise room back.  Set up regular work outs.
  • Renew my goal to weigh 165 lbs.  That means losing 20 lbs.  That means eating correctly and exercising more.
  • Get my golf game back to the high 80's, low 90's - that means playing more than once a week and/or practicing from time to time at Murphy Creek facility - it isn't that far.
  • Go fishing at least once a week - early morning!  Get the boat ready the evening before.
  • Go to Mirror Lake for a day or two - even if it means getting a personal tent.
  • Enjoy our patio.
  • Get the dead Aspens taken care of.
  • Finish a budget that meets Carolyn's needs!
  • Meditate at least once a day!
  • Consider taking up yoga
  • Stretch and roll out frequently
Some of these are not specific enough.  I know that and I know that I need to make them more specific.  I can do it!  I will do it!  It is done!

Wow... I've not written since Feb 12 What is with that? or in mondern internet lingo "WTF"?

Who knows - so today is a typical Monday - recycle day (every other week).  First thing this morning was taking out the recycle and the trash.  Recycle bins are much fuller than the trash bins.  That is a good thing..

Second thing was making sure the sprinklers are properly aligned.  I obviously have a bit of work to do there yet.  Then I ran a drip line to the Bird Bath - who knows if that'll keep water in the thing or not, but I thought it was at least worth a try.  Next go out and check the drip lines, they are running right now.Filling the bird bath worked too good - put a limiter in the line and all is well!  All drip lines are good.

So third thing (at least this morning) is gaming and a cup of coffee! To mix or not to mix that is the question here... a little Bailey's that is!  This morning, I'm opting for some Bailey's!  And a little BP! Also multi-tasking a bit - planning the day and waiting for breakfast!

Took a short break from gaming to put a sticker on the Calendar. Rainbow Heart... Nice!  Check email.  Deciding whether to go to personal training tomorrow or not.  Somewhere in here I also watched about 15 minutes of Dr. Jin.

Well, it is now 8:33 AM - guess I'd better get some work done, starting with book keeping! 9AM.

Interval training for 60 minutes.  Then downstairs to relax a bit before taking the truck in for an oil change! Documented on My Fitness Pal. And, of course, more gaming and a morning snack.

So it is about 12:15 - Oil change is done, all fluids and filters checked and A-OK.  I like Keller Automotive.  Now it is back home.  Fixed the weed sprayer, sprayed weeds. Now to relax with Dr. Jin and a bit more gaming and blogging.  (getting hungry too!)

Next day:  Well, I'm obviously still in a funk!  I didn't finish this post.  Well, that would be a typical day.  Hope you enjoyed yesterday, I did.  It certainly had its moments!

On Being Wistful!

Wistful, quite a word! I'm not even 100% sure what it means... maybe longing or thinking back fondly close.  Just for kicks I think I'll look it up in a hard cover Webster's (yes, they still exist)! Webster says it is "showing or expressing vague feelings."  Well, that describes where I'm at right now - my feelings are vague, almost unreachable, definitely not very describable.  Though that is exactly what I'm doing right now.

I found another one of Mom's sayings or poems scratched on a small piece of paper:
Some one loves me,
Guess who,
It is me.....
    Yvonne Fahlenkamp

Maybe she made that up, maybe she didn't - but I do know it is something that just came into her mind and she had to write it down.  I'm not sure she ever shared it with anyone.  I do know that she does sometimes share her poetry by reading it out loud.  She has done so at church circles and past family reunions.

I've never been in a place that makes me feel so wistful!  It is organized clutter.  There is a real sense of pride and a sense that Mom took care to place everything in just the right place for just the right purpose.  Right down to the smallest of nick-knacks.  As for me, I tend to have disorganized clutter and every time I try to do something about it... well, nothing happens, it just stays disorganized.

Well, it is time to get busy again and that is just what I'm going to do! I'll finish this later.

About an hour has passed. So, this is later and I'm gonna finish this entry.  I've gone from being "wistful" to being "mildly irritated" so it is probably a good time.  For what you ask, to finish this blog entry of course!  Anyway, still a lot of day ahead of me and a ton of things to take care of.  The most important thing is that I'm making significant progress. Kinda like GE used to say... Progress Is Our Most Important Product... or something of that nature.  Have a great day, enjoy your moments!

The Book of Mom - Maybe?

Just a Few of The Many nick-Knacks!
I'm planning my day.  I ran across my mother's poetry the other day whilst cleaning the house.  I've made a copy and of course returned the originals to their proper place.  I found some beautiful and pretty self-revealing poems.  I'll figure out a way to share with her children and grandchildren at some point.  Maybe in something called "The Book of Mom".

I'm going to start cleaning the basement today - lots of dead bugs to vacuum up!  I'll also see what cleaning supplies are needed and take care of that.  I've started dusting upstairs -very carefully because there are literally hundreds of nick-Knacks! As I do this I visualize the happiness that was in the house and that I can still feel.  I wonder what joyous occasions and sad were held here.  I remember some of the Christmases in the basement - and Thanksgiving Dinners that mom and dad hosted while they were still able.

I remember the laughter, the tears, the conversation of mom and dad's children, spouses, and grand children!

Dad Liked Taking the Pictures!!
I also think a wee bit about the things that we struggled through as family - a night I flew here from Colorado to help with brother Lew and the trip to the hospital the morning after.   I remember being here with Chad and Wendfal and our grand daughter Autumn and grandson Wolfgang.  I recall making a trip to one of Lew's holiday dinners with Carolyn, Jeremiah, Rosana and baby Kairi.  There was so much more - but these are the moments that come to mind this morning.

I do remember more the "Story House" - that is the last Montezuma house that I really lived in with the family - that's where we lived when LJ was born. The picture shows me and all my siblings except for sister Sharon.  LJ is the little clown in the lower left.  I think the dogs name was Tina Von Dockleheim or something like that!  I don't remember what Mom and Jacque-lee were discussing, but it must have been pretty interesting!

I'm sure today will bring lots and lots of memories and precious moments!  Make sure to enjoy your moments, each and every one of them!

Anonymous Comments - Hey, It Is Okay

I had a comment from a blog reader a few days ago, more like a question.  The individual asked "what inspires you to write?  How do you get started?"  The answer, for me, is quite simple.  I don't think about it.  There have been many times when I've said I'll do this every day.  That isn't going to happen and perhaps it shouldn't happen.  I think I write when something inside me says "you've got to get some thoughts down in black and white!"  So, I turn to this and write.  Carolyn journals every day.  They are her personal thoughts and whatever - I say whatever because she has and probably never will share those thoughts with me or anyone else.  I think for her it is a matter of making "meaning" of things in her life.  Interesting that I have never asked her about that.  Maybe I think it is or would be an invasion of her privacy.

For me - when I write- it is kind of a release.  It is an opportunity to let go of something that needs letting go of.  It is a matter of sharing my thoughts, feelings, emotions in such a way that maybe someone else - even perfect strangers - may note or gain something that triggers a growth or longing or sense of peace or inquisitiveness somewhere in the depths of their heart and mind. Perhaps that is a bit "ostentatious" or "grandiose" but it is what flows from my mind to my fingertips to the written page.

For some reason I've been thinking a lot about ancestry lately.  Jack helped that a bit as he has traced his family back to BC - yes, BC.  Well, I'm not quite sure that is the reason I've become interested again.  I think it is more that when I see the names and dates it takes my very vivid imagination back to scenes of those days and gives me a greater sense of who I am and what my family has contributed to the gift of "being alive" and to what makes me, me!

I feel, rather think that I'm at a point in my life where being "secretive" and having "secrets" is kinda stupid!  It isn't that there is any secret that I have that would be a revelation to anyone else.  It is just that there are those thoughts and feelings and emotions that have for some reason or another remained untold.  I'm not sure whether it is to protect me or to protect someone else.  I have this obsession about closed doors, drawers, containers and such.  It drives me a bit nuts when someone leaves a door or drawer ajar.  Perhaps there is a relationship to that and holding things tight to one's self.  A form of protection.  If the drawer is open something will be revealed that shouldn't be revealed.  Or perhaps there is no relationship at all and  its just if there is a door and it isn't fully open, it should be tightly and fully shut.... that is just the way of things.  But, I do think that somewhere there is a correlation!

Ah well, today is not going to be "just another day".  It is a day where I will have adventures of the soul and the mind.  My thoughts will, perhaps, take my places I've never been before and stir things up that may or may not be totally pleasant - but will always be a way of healing and getting more of a sense of what life means to me and to those who are and have been a part of my life.  Not necessarily re-living moments and times, but making whole the moments that I share and learn from right now.

Carolyn - I miss you and plan to talk with you today! You are indeed, the light of my life!

Moments to Enjoy - a Visit With Mum

I read a book - studied really - entitled "the 36 Hour Day".  While the book is helpful in understanding how to deal with and care for a person with Alzheimer's and related Dementias, it can in know way relate what it is to really experience dealing with that care. More importantly it is difficult for anyone to put into words how one reacts to the varied situations that arise. Ggaod Bless Jack and Lana for what they have done and what they are doing.  I thank them so much for bringing Mum (that is what she likes to be called, though I still call her Mom) to visit with us and see her Colorado grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mom is so "in the moment" of things - but the moments need to be constantly repeated.  At times there is clearly lucidity for extended periods of time... minutes even!  She and Carolyn - who I know is patient, but is even more patient than I thought, are putting together a puzzle.  The puzzle has 24 large pieces - and putting each piece in seems to take four or five minutes.  But it is getting put together.  The did one yesterday morning too...The results of that one shown below.  Pooh and his friends.  It is good to hear them laugh as they explore the different possibilities for each piece of the puzzle then give thumbs up for each successful try and a high five on completion.

It is interesting to see that there is a cycle to life and love of life and the joy that is found by "working so hard for it" as mom says.  You don't want to take the puzzle apart but you want to enjoy it for several days.  And then it is time to rest and relax.

Singing and exercising makes one laugh and be happy as well.  All of these things help keep the mind sharp - well as sharp as it can be anyway.  I do believe that mom being with Lana and Jack has really helped mom be healthier.  That means that mom will be with us in better mental and physical shape than she would be living alone.  There is no way that we can appreciate the sacrifices enough - but we can try!  Social interaction is a key component of that physical and mental well being!

Well, we are preparing for the Valentine creation party.  So much of the family will be over later to help out with that.  I - in the meantime - am enjoying writing and having a great Bloody Mary!

Moments are precious - friends and family are precious - never forget that.... give hugs and smiles freely- the life you have been given is yours to live to its fullest - so do that! Live all your moments and your life to the fullest!

Spring Cleaning - Yah, I Know it Isn't Spring Yet

Why do we do what we do - things like Spring cleaning?  It has almost become an institution, especially for Baby Boomers like me (I'm not sure anyone now even knows what a Boomer is)?  Well we have started this annual tradition - but we have started way early.  Perhaps because we have company coming.  That always seems to set the stage for setting the stage.  I think we naturally want to show our best.

My mom, 91 years young, is coming to visit.  Lana and Jack are bringing her out.  It will be an awesome treat as some of her great grandkids have never met her!  Her grandkids haven't visit her much either.  I think the last time we were together was a reunion that Jacque and Howard hosted in Montezuma Iowa. It was a Collins family reunion - that's mum's side of the family.

I was giving up hope that mum would ever get out here again.  It brings tears to my eyes that she is going to be able to make the trip and to meet her Colorado legacy - for that is what we truly are.  What does this have to do with spring cleaning? Well it is an occasion that has been triggered by new life and new generations.  We just had a new grandson (Bishop) born - we have another on the way and their great grandma Fahlenkamp is coming out and will be able to see them.

Don and Yvonne Fahlenkamp Family 2006 at Collins Family Reunion
It will be so nice to have Jack and Lana here.  Many of Carolyn's siblings have stayed at our home for various reasons.  Jacque and Howard have been here - but that's pretty much it for my side of the family so it is really a wonderful thing and I'm so looking forward to it for the kids, grandkids, and for Carolyn and I - so cleaning away and sprucing up!  And, most importantly enjoying every single moment of it!

On Being Fascinated

Fascination is an interesting thing.  I've been fascinated with water, fire, wind - all of nature and nature's many wonders.  I've also been continuously fascinated by Carolyn and our relationship - even how after 49 years knowing each other the fascination still abounds.  Kinda like this picture of her and the tree frog.  She asked me to take it!  I didn't know she liked frogs so much.  I like frogs - I have a collection of frogs (not live ones silly)!  Those collectible little bobble head frogs in all sorts of situations.  (I do like eating frog legs though - one of my favorite dishes! - sorry frogs!)

And skies - our skies have so many different looks and colors - their I can stare at the skies (both night skies and day skies) for hours, dreaming and wondering and being thrilled and saddened and, well, fascinated!
Taken by Lanny from Home
The skies over Colorado can produce awesome shapes and colors - right with many different varieties of clouds layered against a morning or evening sky.  They can be  utterly thrilling to look at in wonderment.  What struck about this particular formation was that Carolyn, even though we were miles apart parked the car and took pictures of the same sky with her camera phone.  Pretty neat!

These are just a few of things - so much more - babies, children, elderly folks (folks much older than I am), the rich, the not so rich, the poor, slot machines video games, arcades, mountains, fishing, golf - the human body! Oh my gosh, the human body.  Isn't it amazing how wonderful a creation the human body is?

Fascination is both mental and emotional, feeling and being triggered to action, to love, to laugh, to live!  Fascination - ain't it just great!  Be fascinate with life and all its moments!  Smile at folks - and you'll be fascinated what comes in return!

Another Beautiful Day

Delivered a rocking chair to the kids.  Carolyn and I stopped at Mama Alvino's.  We haven't been there for some time, but it was well worth the stop.  We both had calzones - Carolyn had a veggie and I had a Big Mamma (small one - but still big).  They were as good as we remembered.  We've been going there for over 30 years.  The gentleman that took our money remembered delivering pizzas to our house on Tucson street.

The temperature has been in the high 50's today.  Xavier, Bishop, and Jeremiah are back home and happy to be there.  And we are so very happy that everyone is healthy and vibrant.  I'm grateful for that and much more...

We've enjoyed the day - and hope you have enjoyed yours as well.

Bishop Aries Marcell Fahlenkamp

Bishop
A new grandson born 10PM January 7, 2014.  We now have three grandsons and 7 grand daughters and one grandchild on the way!  I admit the initials are well, BAMF - but that kid will be tough and artistic.  We are proud and we are so happy that Xavier and Jeremiah are all fine - but tired.  He sent us pictures but I have not figured out how to download or upload easily from my phone yet. I wonder if this computer has Bluetooth?Anyhow, hopefully there will be pictures later!

Kairi, Bishop, Miah
I've added these pictures the following day.  I never did figure out blue tooth, but we did get  to the hospital and took some - downloading and uploading those I can do pretty quickly. WE are blessed to have all this love in our family  So now Kairi has another little brother! She appears to be enjoying that very much. Note that broad smile.  Kairi says that baby Bishop has her eyes.

Well, it is easy for me to say but I'll say it anyway - enjoy your moments, each one is very precious and once it is gone it can not be retrieved.  Count and be grateful for the many wonderful things you have to be grateful for.  Enjoy all there is to enjoy and the is a lot!

Family Matters

Carolyn and I are blessed to have so much family on both the Martinez and Fahlenkamp sides - not to mention some of the families of spouses and ex-spouses that are still very important in our lives.  Yesterday we enjoyed an after holiday Holiday Party.  There was family and neighbors.  We enjoyed the party, the laughter - the consolation and the news.  I especially enjoyed the chili and the time we had alone with our hosts (we were early arrivals!). I'm grateful for those things.

We were up early today and already have accomplished a lot for the day.  I continue to worry and fret a bit about Mum.  My son-in-law lost his mom this past week.  He is dealing with so much - he has a great wife to help him through all this - and he has others to call on when he needs or wants to all on them.

Carolyn and I are blessed to be healthy.  We work at it and it is so worth it to be so vital and vibrant and enjoying life as much as we do.  I do note that I tend to "not connect" with folks a lot - I often think it has something to do with the "fear of loss"!  Connecting can be a risk in that sense.  Maybe, just maybe, I need to take more risks and connect more with people.

I realize that I don't participate in what you would call "social sports" - like bowling- and perhaps that is the fear of connection and loss.  Golf is a sport, but not what I call a "social sport".  The lunches after golf with the Monday gang are social, but even there, I don't feel a part of the social set that is present.  Sometimes I feel I'm there because I fill out a foursome.

I think I'm a bit of a recluse!  Could it be?  I'll have to contemplate that - and a whole lot of other things!  Enjoy your family of families and all the moments you have - the good, the bad, and ..... well you know the rest!

My First 2014 Blog --- of course!

Well, it has been a very quiet day.  Carolyn and I crashed at about 00:15 - the kids, well, they crashed when they crashed.  The boys didn't get up until about 11AM, Kairi was up earlier and busied herself with the Galaxy tablet.  I played games and waited for breakfast time which really turned out to be lunch time.

I've made no resolutions, promises or commitments - makes things easier.  Carolyn has had a busy day - me I was mostly lazy - well not mostly - I was lazy! So - not much else to say - nothing else. Have a great year!

My Last Blog of 2013

It has been a great year - lots of travel, fishing, golf, gaming, grandkids, kids, family and much more!  The Martinez Family Reunion was held in July - great turn out.  Met some more of our neighbors.  Chad has become a Real Estate Broker Associate - Autumn graduated from culinary school - Haley is taking honors in school, Brooke made the All American Cheerleading Squad.  Chad and Xavier became engaged and have a child due on or about the sixth of January.  Kindle and Drew are having a baby - these are just a few of the wonderful events that have occurred this year! Oh, yah, Wolfgang has a new girl friend after about 3 years with Sarah.  We met Casey during the cookie decorating. Kairi introduced us to the card game Phase 10 - it is good to be playing cards again.  Trenton and Wolfgang went to Canada with me in July great trip with the grandsons.  Wendfal continues to be a great personal trainer! Jeremiah lost his job at Zumies and got a job at Tillies.  Heather and Eric and their clean continue to be happy and joyful - and have 5 exuberant and talented children. Can't wait to get sons and their sons and dads up there for a wonderful trip. Fished Table Rock Lake - with a guide - never had a guide before - well, Lana Babes has always been my Press Lake guide.  Carolyn continues to grow, learn, explore and attend UFO conferences whilst I hang out at Big Cedar Lodge or elsewhere. /and how could I forget the Class of 63 50th reunion for Montezuma High School. And we celebrated family for the holidays at Dora's.

I also lost my youngest brother this year - Lewis James Fahlenkamp - he died of Chicken Pox - his immune system was wrecked from Chemo treatments for cancer - I did get to take him fishing at Jacque's pond a few months before he passed.  He was named after mother's two brothers.  James (Uncle Jimmy) and Mum are the only two surviving of six children of my grandma and grampa Collins. Mum is doing okay - she turned 91 this year.

I'm sure much more has happened, but these are the things that stick in my mind at the moment and I tend to be in the moment.  I know I've missed some things.  Ah well!

I don't make New Year Resolutions, but I do set goals. I've set and documented a couple....  I hope you had a fabulous 2013 and are looking forward to a wonderful 2014.  Oh yah, I found a few great new inexpensive wines!!!!

The Picture You Wished You'd Never Seen- Really, Don't Look Now - You'll Be Sorry!

The story follows the headline, and the picture is far down the page.  It is the day after Christmas, a most blessed and wonderful Christmas season.  We have two new grandchildren on the way.  Somehow grandchildren are a very special blessing.  Partly, I think, because the kids see value in having kids - which means we brought them up well and we are so happy to be able to say that.

We took down a lot of the Christmas decorations today.  The indoors is done we just have to store all the boxes and trees for Christmas that will come in about 365 days.  We have the Martinez family Christmas party on Saturday.  I could say a few things about that, but those thoughts are better saved for another day.

Today's grateful list:  1) I'm grateful for a very attractive, attentive, active, awesome wife!  Carolyn is such a special woman! 2) I'm grateful for salmon patties.  A lot of folks don't like canned salmon... but, I gotta say I do love a good salmon patty.  3)  I'm grateful for the sound of the fish pond - and yes, there are still three fish living in there - even through the winter.  It has been frozen over twice already this year, but the bubbler and the pond heater keep a goodly portion of it ice free.  4) I'm grateful for the spacious home that we have to share-though we are having discussions concerning the need for all of this space!  5) I'm grateful for my health and I will very much continue to maintain my health and a very healthy life style!

And, here is the picture from the headline!

Yup, I enjoy a great bubble bath from time to time - TMI - Oh well, I told you not to look!

When is Christmas - How long do I have to wait!

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.  Tonight is one of those nights where you can't do w  hat you wanna do! We had guests and we had an awesome surprise... it'll have to wait!

Kindle and Drew were over this evening.... Kindle is pregnant - awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! Really, really, really awesome!  Congratulations Kindle and Drew and Lanny and Carolyn (proud grandparents)....Nuff said!

Back and Forth --

Well, I started a post a few days ago, that I couldn't post because it was something I was asked not to share at the time.  This was not an easy request because the news was well - unexpected.  One may have to look back to last Friday's post which was actually "posted" today to see what I'm talking about.  Confusing isn't it.  Today was very special because I talked to my mom and each of my brothers and sisters.  It was an extremely beautiful and joyful day.

We delivered Christmas goodies to our neighbors and I found it surprisingly enjoyable.  I was really kind of dreading it.  Carolyn said it turns out that I did most of the talking.  Go figure.  I am thankful for really wonderful neighbors.  I'm also grateful for all the smiles and the joy with which we were received.

I'm grateful that we saw most of the kids and grandkids today...  what a blessing they all are.  Megan gave Carolyn and I Christmas gifts.  She has grown up so much and is such a beautiful woman.  I'm grateful for each and every one of our grandchildren.  I'm grateful for Agatha Christie and all her various characters.  Carolyn and I are enjoying Ms. Marple right now.  Such a delightful character.

WEll, I guess I'd best go  back a few days and announce the news! At last.

What To Say?

I know there are days when I just don't know what to do or say.  This is one of them.  At those times, it is just best to start typing and keep the fingers moving.  The thoughts may or may not come and so what!  I know that I am grateful for my parents and my brothers and sisters, for our children and their spouses or significant others, for their children ( our grand children), and for all of the folks in my life.

I'm grateful for laughter and for tears, for calmness and chaos - for all emotions and the ability to experience them.  I was saddened today that the latest Colorado school victim died yesterday - Claire was her name.  Claire attended the same school that one of my nieces attends.  It is sad and it brings back a lot of the horror and sadness of the Aurora theater shooting - it doesn't take much to bring tears.  But it also reminds me of how fortunate we are that some of the victims of that tragedy are making progress and doing well-and for that I am grateful.

I think a lot about my sibs lately.  I'm glad that I'm in regular contact with some of them via internet games.  I need to make a better effort to call them and Mum more frequently because I am blessed to have them in my life.

Today, Carolyn and I will be going to our very first "neighbor" invite - a small Christmas open house across the street from us.  We'll have some very enjoyable moments - you have some as well!

Elves Make Fudge Too

I made some "Easy to Make Fudge"!  Good stuff!  I'm grateful for fudge-but, and this is the big butt - I tend to eat too much of it, so giving it away! Now that is a lot of fudge.  Carolyn and I toured the town yesterday.  We had lunch at PF Changs.  I'd pass on the Beef Ala SuSchuan - not much there, especially for the lunch serving - and little did I know the beef is served extra crispy and chewy as leather  But, the flavor was fantastic.

We went to Park Meadows, still one of my favorite Colorado indoor malls.  A really great place to walk.  We also finally bought a Mandoline.  Now I can make those summer sausage chips 1/16" thick.  Hard to find a Mandoline that does 1/16" slices.  I'll find out this evening how well it works (or doesn't).

Carolyn has put together neighbor treat boxes.  I'm grateful for neighbors-we do have great neighbors surrounding our home. The temperature has dropped about 30 degrees (notice how adroitly I change the subject).. yesterday it was a balmy 60, this morning a cool 20 - I guess that is a 40 degree drop.

I'm grateful for Christmas lights, though sometimes I don't necessarily enjoy taking them down and putting them away.  I'm still looking for an electric train.  They are almost impossible to find.  I'll have to spend some time exploring the internet next year.  I'll have to see if Mum still has some back home.  Maybe she does.  Dad used to put one around each tree.  I'm grateful for those memories.  Although, when I left home they were still doing only one tree.. I think some years later they had as many as 6 or 7 differently "themed" trees.

We have personal training this morning.  Sometimes I look forward to it, sometimes (Like Today) I'm kinda not looking forward to it.  I will be happy after I've finished it though.  Today should be an interesting and challenging day full of joyful and funny moments.

Happy Holidays!

Some Guys Still Kneel!

She said yes!
Jeremiah proposes to Xavier at our home - that is definitely a blessing and something to be grateful for!  I've been out of touchA with reality for a few days now - this event brought me back.  The ring is very nice!  Congratulations to the two of you. All in all yesterday was an excellent day.  Had our friend Eric over for dinner and financial discussions - we talked about all the travel Carolyn and I did this year, and the great time we had with my sibs and their spouse at Table Rock in Missouri.

It is the first time I've fished there.  We hired a guide (Lyle the guide) and we actually caught fish.  I learned some very new techniques - drop line and tube dragging and basically fished at some depths that I'm not used to fishing.  Table Rock is a very deep lake.

I'm also very grateful for laughter.  Carolyn laughed a lot this morning - mostly at some of my faux pauxs but, but still very nice to hear.

Oh, and yesterday was grandson Trenton's birthday - oops.  WE called this morning and left a birthday song for the birthday boy.

I'm a little out of it this morning - perhaps it has something to do with the wine we had last night.  One was okay (the Red), the other was really great (the Earthquake Sirah)!  I'd do that one again! The rooster is sporting a new bottle today (When did I make that happen!)  Enjoy your moments, I've most certainly enjoyed all of mine! Perhaps a bit more than I should have?  Nah, one can never have to much joy!

A Knock At the Door

Our doorbell goes off from time to time.  I think it is Casper.  Well, really, we go to the door and no one is there, but the door bell clearly rang.  Anyhow, the best knock at the door is when one of the kids or grandkids come just to say hi.  It is an awesome event. Today was our annual Cookie decorating fete.  Pictures are posted on my Facebook page.  Rosana and Kairi were the first to arrive, followed by Wendfal and gang, then Jeremiah and Xavier and finally Heather and kids -sans Brooke and Megan who had other obligations for the day.  I'm grateful for all door knocks or door bell ringing-except for Casper.  It really happens ( I secretly know why, but no one else understands the phenomenon)! Kindle was the last to come... it was surely great to see her!  I could be wrong about the order of arrival - so please just forgive and forget!

So that is number one on gratefulness- number 2- I'm thankful for great cookie and frosting recipes.  3-I'm thankful for card games that can be played with Carolyn and the grand-kids.  4- I'm thankful for slots that don't cost money - I'd be in trouble if I headed for Blackhawk every day!  5- I'm grateful for Mafia Wars and Facebook friends - they certainly keep life very interesting.  Also I got a note from Social Security today that I'm getting a 1.5% raise in January.  Wow - real cause for celebration.

The food and company was really wonderful today.  There were lots of beautiful cookies completed and lots of excellent potluck contributions.  Thanks all for a really great day. Picture included:
Unfortunately, Carolyn is not in the picture-- somebody had to take it!  Life is great, live your moments, enjoy them - smile and make someone's day.  Heather told a story today that blew my mind.. I wish I could share it, but that isn't my place.  Thanks for sharing our day!  Happy Holidays.  We sang "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" with an every decreasing choir of angelic voices.!!!

A Drop in The Ocean

It boggles my mind how big and full this earth of ours is - and then the universe!  It is just too much to think about!  Truth is I probably shouldn't think about it because doing so will make my brain ache!  That is why, for me, quiet time and emptiness seem to be important  - always has been.  The solitude makes it easy to reflect and meditate (which by the by I don't do enough of).  I am truly grateful for those moments when everything seems to just "be"!  There is nothing that can intrude on that feeling and that moment.  I think this morning is full of little moments like that!

I'm sure this doesn't make any sense to anyone else who might happen upon these words.  Heck, on reflection I'm not sure they make any sense to me.  I had trouble sleeping so I got up.  Maybe it was the black beans or pico that I ha for supper-maybe the last minute Cherry Zero I'm so fond of.  I'm not sure how much caffeine is in one of those drinks - maybe quite a lot.

So to continue: 2) I'm grateful for the occasional times Carolyn and I dine out together - nothing fancy, but usually wonderful conversation. 3) I'm grateful for the reflections on folks who were once friends - but somehow let slip from my consciousness and still wonder how and where they are - the ones I think to think about the most are the guys I went through fundamentals with at Lowry AFB - "back in 65".  Seems so long ago.  I look them up on Facebook from time to time but sometimes I wonder if I'm one of the few of those fellas on Facebook.  But there is Joe and Don and Paul (didn't go to fundies with Paul - Don either) but they were Air Force guys.  I don't think much about the kids from high school and I don't quite know why that is, nor do I think a lot about relatives - interesting.

It is almost as if I live in a world - alone!  But I know I don't.   (On with it Lanny.) 4) I'm grateful for a fresh cup of coffee and a two eggs and bacon breakfast!  5) I'm grateful for moments like this!

Have yourself a wonderful and interesting day - smile at others - be kind!

Lights, Lights, and more Lights

I"m not exactly grateful for lights, but they do look kinda pretty against a clear night sky.  These Christmas lights have sure improved over the years - don't have any bad strings again this year.  So, what is it I'm grateful for on this fine day: 1) time alone - I enjoy watching Asian flicks, they usually have a lot of action 2) I enjoy the warmth of a bright sunny day after a bitter cold early morning 3) I'm grateful stars in the sky 4) I'm grateful for a car and truck that both work very well and get pretty good gas mileage!  5) I'm grateful for the joy in my life!

It has been a really wonderful day... really wonderful!

I'm Decorating Things - How Did That Happen

Yes - I've been doing Christmas stuff. Decorating, putting up a train, a tiny village, bringing out the "old style" music box and playing Longines Symphony Christmas Music - and various Christmas CD's.  I didn't think I'd get into this, but alas, I can't resist the holiday spirit.  I even have my Christmas type joker cap on.  So it isn't traditional - or serious, but it is me.  The "traditional" Santa hat was tried, but doesn't seem the same.
I'm seriously thankful and grateful for much more than 5 things- but that is the daily goal.  Please not the abundant use of dashes today -- I really got 'em going.  Dashes add a certain panache to writing - in my humble opinion.  Thank goodness for spell checker because I'm not quite the speller I used to be.  So: 1) I'm thankful for Scotch! Having one right this moment.  2) I'm thankful and grateful that my sister Lana and her husband Jack are paying us a visit in January - that's Awesome!!!!!  3)  I'm thankful for cold weather - it really makes one appreciate warm weather.  4) I'm grateful for more than one inch of snow - because then I can get my snow blower out and pretend I'm a heavy equipment operator! 5) I'm grateful for button cell batteries, but not grateful for the fact that there is seemingly an infinite number of sizes! Arggggggggg

Rosana posted pictures of some of the grandkids and faux grand kids making Christmas Cookie shapes for the cookie decorating this weekend.  A Fahlenkamp family tradition!  Hailey Dearman, Kairi Fahlenkamp, Dakota, Diego, and Tyler.  They had a really good time.  Lots of smiles and thanks Rosana and Grandma Lee for bringing them over and Heather for bringing Hailey.  Next Sunday is decorating Sunday - frosting everywhere and a great family pot-luck. I hope I used that dash (hyphen) appropriately.  Carolyn is in the kitching making Summer Sausage Chips - we'll see how those turn out.  It is the last of my Summer Sausage.  Oh well, it is Winter!

Brrrrrrrrrrrr and Snowing

It is cold, very cold.  Bottom line, I'm not spending much time outside today.  (I'm also going to try and not using any dashes in this post!)  Carolyn is likely in heaven this morning, getting ready for some of the grandkids and a few others to come over and help decorate Christmas trees and cut cookie dough into shapes for cooking and then decorating next weekend.

I'm looking forward to a day of relaxation and football. I'm also attempting to work my way through this stack of paper in front of me.  I don't think I've ever properly learned the art of read it once and take care of it.  The consequences are years worth of things that I've not dealt with.  Well, that is changing.  I am making progress.

1)  I'm grateful for all of the above.  2) I'm grateful for a warm home and a wonderful lady to share it with! 3) I'm grateful for those that come and visit and enjoy the home with us.  4) I'm grateful that I can still relax and enjoy so many different diversions. 5) I'm grateful for those sliders that help me move the furniture around without a lot of help, really, I am!

The Broncos will be playing in some really cold weather today!  But, I think they'll do just fine against the Titans.  Enjoy your day today!  Time for a drink!

A Tree, A What, A Tree

So, we get a tube, about 3" in diameter from Lowe's.  A Christmas Calendar I'm guessing.  Nope, it is a Colorado Blue Spruce - about 7" tall -  a course I need to go buy a pot, soil - you know.. plant the damn thing for the winter.  Come on Lowe's what's with this -  surely you don't make that much on pots and potting soil -- Its winter for goodness sake.. What are you thinking?????

But, I guess I can count trees as one of the things I'm very thankful for.  I do love trees.  But, I'm much better with established trees than I am with "new" trees.  WE'll see if I can keep this thing alive over the winter.

So - what else am I grateful for today - well - my Jacuzzi tub - love laying n the Jacuzzi for 20 minutes.  I'm also grateful for being able to see Brooke's last cheer championship at the Denver Coliseum  yesterday.  Congrats Brooke.. Hope to see you cheer at a basketball game.  I'm also grateful for Schwan's Hot and Spicy Chicken Breast - makes a great sandwich really quick.  What else - I need 5 a day you know.  Well I'm grateful for my new ASUS laptop.  I've really enjoyed the touch screen and the long battery life.

Ya know, I have not been philosophical at all of late.  I don't know why that is.  I've got a lot on my mind - maybe it just isn't of a philosophical nature.

Put three Christmas trees together today.  I'm leaving it up to Carolyn and grandkids to decorate them.  I'm really not into decorating. Perhaps though, I will put the little village together - perhaps.  Enjoy your holiday moments!  I know I'll be enjoying mine.

Oops again... So What!

All I can say now is that I'm not the dedicated person you thought me to be.  No discipline at all.  But hey, I'm here aren't I.

The Gratefulness documentary: 1) for passion, what is life without passion!  2) for smiles - they do so much for everyone! 3) for a great brew in the morning and for some Irish Cream to warm the soul  4) for laughter - it take so much sorrow away  5) for tears - that seem to be shed for no reason - but usually for love of some kind!

Yup, yesterday was one of those really awesome (if not cold) days.  We got all the Christmas stuff down from storage and staged.  Carolyn even got some of it put up!  Good for her.  I was too lazy and just took a nice long tub!  We got a lot accomplished yesterday.  I feel good - no, I feel great.

You all have a really wonderful day - I know I will.  (I notice I've used a lot of dashes of late!)

Already Missed A DAy....

I already missed one day and it has only been 2 days since I started - gratefulness that is.  Well, today, I can tell that I am grateful for the snow - even being able to go out and shovel it all on my own.  I'm grateful for love making - yes even at this age it is an important part of life.  I'm grateful for the beauty the snow brings - and for chocolate nuggets by Hershey.  Number 5 I'm grateful for chickens and the eggs the lay because I love a great egg or two for breakfast.

Other than that - I've got a lot to do today - new security lights at the old res... and fixing a crack in the tub  -- a crack in the tub.  HOw the heck does that happen -- wouldn't have with the old ceramic covered cast iron. FYI - I'm really excited about the beautiful Christmas Cactus that is in full bloom right now.

CArolyn is busy planning the annual Christmas Cookie Fiesta - not too many weeks left.  Gotta fix the batter though because last year we couldn't tell what shapes they were.  This will definitely be a better year for that!

Just Because!

Carolyn sent me an article to read - she sends quite a few - sometimes I read them sometimes I don't.  I read this one.  It was a reminder about giving thanks.. yah, I know, she sent it on or about Thanksgiving day.  But, it is something she asked one of our grandsons to do months ago.. Kinda like counting your blessings, but more like things we are greatful for on a daily basis and journaling those things on daily.

Well, today is my first day and I'm just going to try and make a habit of it - mainly because it will help me to reflect - so here goes:  1) I'm grateful for my health!  2) I'm grateful for a wonderful and healthy life partner - Carolyn! 3) I'm grateful for my kids and grandkids! 4) I'm grateful for the margaritas in the refrigerator - seriously, it is nice to go just push the tap and have one!  5) I'm grateful for all the travel and vacations we were able to do in 2013!  .

Well, there is day one of gratefulness.  And oh yes, I'm grateful for you too!  Have a wonderful rest of 2013.

No, It Isn't Monday - But, I Feel the Need to Express Myself

Some things in life just are not as meaningful or important as they used to be.  Other things are much more meaningful and important.  I do love golf, but I won't be going to Myrtle Beach this year.  I love fishing and hope to do a lot more of it this year.  I love walks with Carolyn, but we seem to walk at a different pace.. we are working that one out.

I spent a lot of time at the old house the last couple of days... this and that to take are of.  I've renewed some of my "handyman" skills - and lost a few of those skills as well.  I enjoy on-line games - probably more than I should - but the strategy games keep my mind sharp - as a tack.

I was elected President (well appointed more or less) of the Fitz Men's Golf Association.  Thanks Eldon for all your years of great service to this group.

I'm listening to New Age music.  It is dark outside.  I wish I had Carolina's for my coffee this morning.  Working on unpacking the last few boxes from our move two years ago.  Got to get the snow blower tuned up - we are expecting snow on Tuesday.

Went to Drew's Jazz concert last night - awesome music - Julie sang as sweetly as ever and Drew - well - such a talent and quite the comedian - I don't mind being the butt of some of his jokes.

Got to call mom and see how she is.  I still have a little over 2000 faces to identify in Picasa -- but, I'm getting there.  I'm not meeting my new 1 lb a week weight loss - but, I am shaping up more every day.  I love life, laughter, and Carolyn  (my C key seems to stick a bit).  I love my kids and grandkids and their spouses and significant others -- I love to love.

Gosh, Hundreds is a really beautiful dog!  Got to get my bookwork done - tax season draws closer and closer and I'm not going to procrastinate this year.  Really, I'm not.  I'll start on this one tomorrow!

I hate to leave you in a lurch, but this is it for today!

Once Again It Has Been Awhile

I am not sure what it is that triggers the writing bug - but it got triggered again just a few moments ago.  When it does, words-mostly meaningless banger, flow from my finger tips to the keyboard with seeming effortlessness.

Autumn's Birthday Today - Happy Birthday
I was just thinking about the sprinkler system again.  I did get it all done with only one trip to the store yesterday - I had to replace the "test cock" with a different fitting for my compressor.  I know I had an adapter around someplace, but it seemed to have gotten lost in the move a couple of years back.  I still don't have all the little gizmo's unpacked and stored in easy to find places - too much golfing, fishing, and vacationing to do!!

Well, I guess I've got another slight problem that needs to be fixed - downstairs toilet flapper valve and the darn irrigation shut off ball valve seems to be leaking - damn, I may have to call a plumber on that one.

Was just thinking about Larry Holmes.  Larry was one of my favorite high school teachers - taught typing and accounting - yes, when I was in school we used typewriters - you know, the thing that had a ribbon and made a lot of noise - with the clickety-click sound of the letters slamming against the paper at blazing speed!  Anyway - Larry was at the class-reunion (50th for Monte High Class of 63) - he is fighting the good fight with some cancer and has such a very positive attitude.  It was good to talk to him.  We didn't get to visit long - but he still has that same great smile and positive words for folks that he always seemed to have for his students.

16th Birthday-What is That - Tibby
Always a Great Smile
It is my grand daughter Autumn's birthday today.  I'll be headed over to the kids house to help them celebrate.  (and watch some Sunday football)  Isn't she cute, excited, and  so beautiful!

And now a Culinary School of Arts Graduate - That's Michael to her left...  Happy Birthday Autumn!!!!! Well, anyway - the bug has drifted and I got no more words flowing from the tips of my fingers.... So--

Have a great day, enjoy each and everyone of your family and friends - give smiles and hugs freely - recall your blessings but live in the moment - because, the moment is what we have!
